The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamentals on wastewater characterization. Physical, chemical and biological characterization and analytical methods for wastewater are the main topics. The course is addressed to PhD students that would like to acquire knowledge on the main characterization of wastewaters and would like to achieve practical experiences in laboratory.
Acquired skills:
Knowledge of the physical, chemical and biological characterization of wastewaters;
knowledge of the most important analytical equipment for wastewater characterization,
practical application of some analytical procedures.
Contenuti del corso:

· Physical characteristics of wastewater: temperature, solid
· Chemical characteristics of wastewate:
o inorganic matter (total dissolved solids, nutrients, fluoride, contaminants)
o organic matter (COD, BOD, TOC)
· Biological characteristics of wastewater: microorganisms and pathogens
2. Laboratory activities: applications of some analytical procedures from “Metodi analitici per le Acque” by IRSA-CNR and Standard Methods for the examination of Water and Wastewater by APHA e AWWA.
